Armed with a degree in Computer Science and Mathematics, Örs is ruthlessly focused, smart (we’re sure he can solve almost anything) and driven to improve the end product. He's responsible for ensuring that everything in Vyne’s back-end is operating on all cylinders.
Örs oversees a total of 24 developers including platform leads, tech leads, senior and mid level developers as well as manual and automation testers. He’s been at Vyne since the beginning of our journey, writing the first lines of code (hat tip).
How did you come to Vyne and why did you say "yes" to joining us?
I've been the director of engineering since September 2021 and I was one of the technical founders at Vyne. I knew Vyne's other two technical founders from my time at Worldpay and when I heard about the project, I was keen to join. I believed in the vision and thought it would be exciting to be involved in something cutting-edge.
It took us three months to go from working on the MVP to going live and ready to accept the first merchants. It was a fantastic achievement for the three of us and the company. We are still fairly at the beginning of our journey, but it always felt like a movement to me.
Favourite three things about Vyne?
Trust, transparency and the space to innovate.
Describe an average day at Vyne.
I would say ever-changing. There are many things that I could be working on at any given time. It could be recruitment, making technical and architectural decisions, managing people and projects, working with the compliance and legal team on security standards or looking into incidents. It's fast-paced and things change all the time.
What’s the most exciting thing about being in payments right now?
Being able to help merchants transact with their end customers faster. The transaction could be pending for a day, or sometimes even three days with traditional payments. Quite a few merchants are not comfortable sending out products or providing a service before the money lands, but the transaction can settle in seconds with Vyne. Now they have that reassurance that yes, the money has hit my bank account and I can send out the product. So there is a lot of value we bring.
There are challenges, yes, but it's fun and rewarding. To create a frictionless experience for merchants and the end user is an exciting journey to be part of. I'm always thinking about how we can do things better, make things faster, and make our product work even better for customers.
What advice would you give to any engineers wanting to join Vyne?
If they are looking for a challenge in a fast-paced environment and want to be part of a really good team then this is the perfect place. We’ve built a solid foundation and the quality of our engineers are super high. An example would be our platform leads who would be called principal engineers and architects elsewhere.
We’re small enough to make your mark, but we are growing, so there are opportunities for career progression. I don’t think you can get this type of growth in a corporate environment. Typically, you would have many people above you and red tape, but here you can implement changes and make your mark here. It’s the perfect time to join.
Favourite place to go on holiday?
Maldives
What's your superpower?
I can notice slight changes in tone, body language and gestures. I used to be quite introverted and spent a lot of time observing people and processes.
What are people often surprised to know about you?
I love perfumes and have a collection.
Finally, your favourite read/watch/listen?
I mostly watch TV series and one of my all-time favourites is Lie to Me. I’m into EDM music.
